Everyone experiences feelings of stress and anxiety at times.
This is a response to a situation whereby we feel under pressure and at times overwhelmed. Normally these feelings subside once the stressful situation has passed.
Yet for many people, these feelings don't pass, making it hard for a person to cope with daily life. It can feel as though their mind won't shut off. Sometimes this anxiety can be generalised, whereas other times it can be more specific (social anxiety or phobias).
A range of factors can lead to a person developing anxiety. These often include:
- Job, financial, family and/or relationship stress.
- Physical health problems.
- Family history of anxiety/mental health issues.
- Substance use.
- Personality factors.
- Recent life change.
